“When you sleep” is a project the figurative painter has been working on this past year, in which she grants her close ones the benefit of freedom from judgments and external gazes during the moment of sleep. In this state of near-unconsciousness, there is no need to play a role, and we are connected with the deepest aspects of existence without ego and without the survival instinct. Jimm considers sleep to be an almost magical and meditative state, one of the few small moments left to truly be ourselves. Additionally, as the artist herself has significant difficulty falling asleep, this series is further justified. The work offers two paths for the viewer: to embrace the peace conveyed by this moment, sought through the creation of the painting, or to feel an underlying discomfort from witnessing such an intimate moment as sleep, which should only be seen by someone with whom being vulnerable is not frightening.
